It should not amaze me but since I'm of little faith, it never fails to amaze me how fast God works when we ask him to work in our lives. A few weeks ago, my wife and I prayed that God would use both of us to help disciple other Christians and help other believers walk more closely to God. This weekend alone is such a testimony to how mightily He answered that prayer.
We led our monthly teachers Bible study on Friday evening. And it was such an amazing session. The lesson itself, we discussed what it meant to pursue happiness as God had ordained it. We explained that he was a happy God because i) he delights in himself but he alone is the most valuable thing in the universe; ii) he is sovereign and no one can stay his hand; iii) his happiness spills over in mercy to us.
After the lesson, the other teachers shared and the main thing they shared was that there wasn't enough sheperding among the youths of our church and that something ought to be done about it. My wife and I felt our hearts burning when we heard this. Did God want us to do something with the youths?
Then the next day, we were scheduled to talk at another church. We were asked to inspire and enthuse the church's teachers about teaching the Bible chronologically. They had been doing it for two years but with lukewarm success and many just felt it was too dry. Well, the Lord used us mightily to put the passion back into them. We feared at first, thinking what could we possibly teach Sunday School veterans? It turns out God had a specific purpose for us to be there. He wanted to fired up the 24 teachers who were listening to our talk. We could see the change in them by the time the session ended. We could see that the Ee-Taow videos had made a huge impact on them and they saw with fresh eyes how the material they had thought was so dry could have such power to enlighten minds when taught with the Holy Spirit fuelling the fire.
Then this morning, we were blessed a third time when we led our Sunday School class through the start of the Exodus journey. We went through a review of all the lessons we had covered since the start of the year and I asked the children what they had learnt. We were happy to hear some of the things they had learnt: how Satan was not in the lake of fire yet but on earth; how the world we lived in is a world cursed because of sin; how angels are spirit beings and we as humans don't become angels when he die; and more.
We had a chance to tackled some pertinent questions that they had:
- Do ghosts exist? If not, what the things we see? (Spirit beings but definitely not the spirits of dead people because they don't come back to the earth)
- If God had not given the ten commandments at the time when Lucifer rebelled, how could that be considered sin? (Sin, we explained, was any action that does not glorify God the most and so Lucifer wanting to glorify himself more than God was committing sin.)
What deep, dotrinal questions they kids could ask, once we opened up the Bible for them chronologically! Thanks be to God indeed. Now we're waiting upon the Lord some more as he patiently reveals where and who we are to teach next. We remember the saying: God is never in a hurry but he is never late. How true they are in our present cirumstances. We can't wait to see what happens next.
